History
Being born in thatch-roofed mud house in a very deprived farming community in Ghana by illiterate and very poor parents, the worst episode of his life began when at the age of 9, David K. Awusi painfully lost his beloved mother. Together with her kid sister who was just 3months old, they were transferred to stay with his paternal Aunty in a deprived rural farming community in the Central Region of Ghana. David had to drop out from school for close to 2years to baby sit her kid sister before continuing his education.
As a school child, he had to go to farm in the morning or sometimes go and sell in villages through hours of walk before going to school. This he had to do in order to support her guardian who was a single mother and a peasant farmer. To support her education, he had to occasionally cut firewood, burn them into charcoal and sell to provide some school materials such as books, school shoes and bags. Through divine providence, he was able to pass his basic education well and miraculously received a school 3-years scholarship to pursue his secondary education by Plan International. He proceeded to the University of Ghana to pursue his Bachelor’s and then Master’s degrees.
Today, he has worked for over a decade both with local and international development organizations till he transitioned to set up and drive his passion of giving a helping hand to and defending the right of the poor, deprived and orphans in Ghana through Youth Rise International! David, has given generously and tirelessly sacrificed his personal salary, assets among others privileges in order to run and sustain Youth Rise International up until now.
Presently, Youth Rise International is member of Coalition of NGOs Against Child Trafficking (CNACT), the West African Coalition Against Trafficking In Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (WACTIPSOM) and also recognized by the Government of Ghana particularly the Human Trafficking Secretariat (HTS) under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP).
